Comic Books Come to Life

Visionbooks Logo

Visionbooks created a completely new experience for comic fans, while preserving the original narrative and layout found in paper comics. Visionbooks’ new technology brings illustrated panels to life with dimensional action and is the most advanced motion-illustration developed in the comic book industry so far.

Visionbooks introduces Telikos Protocol from Vanquish Interactive and continues the release of the Zombie Terrors, Fearless Dawn, and Farmhouse series from Asylum Press as well as NEW-GEN from A.P.N.G. Enterprises.

"We are very excited to be part of Visionbooks -- their technology makes Asylum Press' comics jump off the page with all sorts of effects. A new dimension for comics has been opened and its name is Visionbooks!” offered partner Frank Forte, president of Asylum Press.

“Visionbooks creates a cinematic reading experience that engages the next generation of new comic book fans,” said Chris Matonti at A.P.N.G. Enterprises.

Visionbooks uses cloud computing to save device memory space. The iPad app is free to download from the Apple Store and will soon be available for the Android platform.

“We are passionate fans of comic books, and we wanted to bring something new, engaging and dynamic to this platform,” said Visionbooks founder, Francesco Scrufari. “With our technology, this very traditional medium is delivered in a new, enriched and even more expressive format,” added Visionbooks co-founder, Simone Offredo.

Visionbooks Aims to Change the Way You Read Comics

Reimagining or redefining the comic book can be a tough thing. Going from paper to digital was already such a huge step for the medium, one would think that was its final frontier. Turns out, there is still room for innovation in the comic book space, and Visionbooks has done this with Motion Comics. I recently got a chance to check out and learn a little more about Visionbooks and their new iPhone app, which will deliver new motion comics monthly.

Visionbooks has signed on multiple publishers that will be releasing a steady stream of comics reworked into the Visionbooks app, complete with motion graphics. These include Asylum Press, Arcana, and Vanquish Interactive.

Chopper Comic Gets a Ride With Dilemma

Article by Dave McNary, Variety Magazine

Marketing and branded entertainment company Dilemma plans to move into movies with a feature film adaptation of Martin Shapiro's horror comic "Chopper."

Company founder and producer J.C. Christofilis has optioned a script from Shapiro for a project described as a modern spin on the "Sleepy Hollow" mythology, with storylines revolving around a headless outlaw biker seeking vengeance in the afterlife.

Dilemma is seeking co-producers at the American Film Market.

Earlier this year, Dilemma produced and self-distributed a nine-episode web series that introduced prequel storylines intended to set up the movie and its mythology. Series starred Tyler Mane and Andrew Bryniarski, with Christofilis writing and directing.

Shapiro and Christofilis met as classmates at UCLA film school then reunited at Comic-Con 2010 when Shapiro shared some early panels of the "Chopper" comicbook that Asylum Press released in 2011.

"Ultimately, the neverending viability of the horror genre combined with the exploding interest in shows like 'Sons of Anarchy' made my decision to bring our title character to life a no-brainer -- pardon the pun," said Christofilis.

Tom Rubin repped Dilemma in negotiations and Shapiro was repped by manager Scott Agostoni.

Heads Roll in New CHOPPER Comics

Posted by Samantha Fox at Fangoria

Asylum Press and Night Owl Productions have announced a new horror comic miniseries and corresponding web series: CHOPPER. Written by screenwriter Martin Shapiro and drawn by Dark Horse artist Juan Ferreyra, CHOPPER is described as a modern-day reimagining of the infamous Headless Horseman, who has now become a headless Hell’s Angel on a motorcycle who collects the souls of sinners in the afterlife, and attacks individuals while they’re high on a new designer drug with supernatural side effects.

“When Martin showed me the first two issues of CHOPPER, I was blown away,” says Frank Forte, president of Asylum Press. “He has created a dark, truly original world of drugs, outlaw bikers and supernatural mayhem that horror fans should really respond to.”

“The idea for CHOPPER came to me when I was at the Daytona Bike Week Festival,” adds Shapiro. “I love custom choppers and I love horror films from the 1970s and ’80s, so I decided to combine the two elements into a hardcore, no-holds-barred, R-rated story. I wanted to create one of the most beautiful books on the market with lots of attention to detail and cinematic coloring.”

The 32-page full-color CHOPPER #1 (check out a special 5-page preview here) goes on sale October 5, the same date the corresponding web series makes its YouTube debut. Other CHOPPER tie-ins will include an iPhone game app, a music deal with a currently unannounced heavy metal band and a sponsorship with Rockstar Energy Drink.

“I realized there was an opportunity to expand Martin’s strong characters and story universe from the comic book by utilizing trans-media storytelling to create original on-line tales that could further enrich the overall CHOPPER mythology and entertainment experience for fans,” says producer J.C. Christofilis. “Our goal is to reach massive audiences through all possible media platforms as we unleash integrated, killer content via the comics, web series, social media and ultimately feature films. We are confident this new horror franchise will connect deeply with fans who appreciate a mix of quality storytelling and hardcore horror on the level of SLEEPY HOLLOW and the first NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET!”
